Chase Sapphire Preferred Card: Easiest $625 I’ve Ever Made

There are plenty of credit cards out there, but Chase’s Sapphire Preferred card stands out.  It has some pretty awesome benefits including: 2x points on travel (including airfare, hotels, trains etc.), 2x points on dining, and 1x points on everything else.  Of course, arguably the greatest part about the card is the sign-up bonus that the title of this article relates to.

Sign-Up Bonus

The offer as of the day this article is published is – 50,000 bonus point for spending $4,000 in the first three months.  These 50,000 points are worth $500 as a statement credit,  as gift cards (some of which have 10-20% discounts) or $625 travel credit for use in the Chase Travel portal.

Some may feel that the $4,000 spending requirement is a bit steep, and I’d agree.  However, it became very easy when I switched all of my auto-payments for utilities, subscriptions, car payment etc. over to my chase card.  What else worked great for me was booking my trip to Bermuda on the card, which instantly used up a couple thousand dollars, and I also got 2x points for that on top of the bonus I would ultimately receive.

I came back from Bermuda with about 62,000 rewards points on my Chase account- about $780 in FREE travel.  I booked 2 flights and a weekend in a hotel for my girlfriend and I and paid about $100 out of pocket.  It was pretty awesome to get to go to Florida for free, especially since I would have spent that $780 out of pocket if I had simply used my debit card for the past few months.

Some Other Things to Consider With the CSP Card

  • There is a $95 dollar fee that is waived for the first year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Purchase protection (120 days from purchase up to $500 per claim)
  • Travel accident insurance
  • Lost luggage insurance
  • Average credit for approval is around 740, however many people reported approval as low as 680

There are a lot of travel credit cards out there to choose from.  The Chase Sapphire Preferred has been one of my favorite cards to use, even if it weren’t for the travel benefit.  Besides my (almost) free trip to Florida, I’ve had quite a few discounted gift cards to places I frequent such as Starbucks, Amazon, and Chipotle.  I have not been compensated in any way to write this review. I simply have had a great involvement thus far with this credit card and wanted to share my experience.
